Brewbird Coffee Freshly Roasted Coffee Subscription Plan Information

This rare coffee is grown near the town of Namadzi in the southern Highlands of Malawi, East Africa, an area better known for producing world class teas. The Catimor coffee trees are grown in a rich and fertile clay loam at 1200 metres above sea level. The coffee farms all maintain programs to subsidize the cost of housing, health care and education for workers and their families.

These rare gems have tasting notes of citrus fruits and green apples, interwoven through hints of sweet brown sugar. A bright clean cup, silky smooth body with a long toffee finish.

Planting coffee is also a soil conservation measure in these areas, where erosion is a widespread problem, as the bushes are planted in contour lines which help to control run-off and soil loss. Coffee is mainly planted by smallholders and is often inter-cropped with other species including macadamia trees in order to supply food to the household.

The coffee cherries are harvested at dawn and brought to pulperies before early afternoon. They are then carefully washed and graded the same day before the wet parchment settles into separate fermenting tanks.

This coffee is roasted using the Eco Roast method.  Used coffee grounds which are rich in energy and normally end up in landfill, are collected and turned into biofuel which in turn is used to roast fresh batches of coffee.  This is a zero-waste solution which enables you to enjoy freshly roasted coffee that has actually helped to reduce waste and carbon emissions, for a more sustainable future.

Open the bag and smell the nutty, fruity, freshly roasted flavours, and visualise the ripe cherries being picked in the early morning mist of East Africa before being carefully processed and delivered right into your hands.
