This blend is an amazing full-bodied coffee from Colombia, decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Processing method and then roasted a little darker to even out the flavours to make a good, rounded drink for everyone to enjoy. Retains a good body and rounded finishing notes unlike many other decafs. This coffee works beautifully as both espresso and as a fresh filter coffee.
When you drink this warming dark roast decaf, expect to taste a substantial body and fragrant notes of ground nutmeg, hazelnut and fragrant spices. Low acidity and a long, sweet finish.
The Swiss Water Process uses water, temperature, and time to create some of the most amazing decaf coffee.
First the beans are cleaned and hydrated with pure water to prepare them for caffeine removal. Then the specially developed Green Coffee Extract (GCE) is introduced to the beans and caffeine removal begins. The caffeine ventures out on its own, away from the coffee beans into the GCE until the ratio of soluble compounds in the GCE to the compounds in the coffee reach the point of equilibrium. Caffeine and GCE flow continuously through carbon filters until all the caffeine is trapped and separated from the GCE. Then the GCE is refreshed so that it can be used again and again to remove more caffeine. The beans are then monitored for 10 hours until the result is achieved - 99.9% caffeine-free coffee.
This coffee is roasted using the Eco Roast method. Used coffee grounds which are rich in energy and normally end up in landfill, are collected and turned into biofuel which in turn is used to roast fresh batches of coffee. This is a zero-waste solution which enables you to enjoy freshly roasted coffee that has actually helped to reduce waste and carbon emissions, for a more sustainable future.
